croc scare

IN the wake of a croc scare in Port Dickson the authorities are not acting right. The police and the local council president have issued statements that there are no crocodiles in PD waters.

But many people have spotted a crocodile on several instances and even the PD assemblyman's secretary Lionel Perera told me that many people have rang him to alert him when they spotted the crocodile on several occassions.

This is not a new story, the only difference is one person got bitten recently near the Corus Hotel waters and nearly lost his leg.

Yet the authorities are not even making an attempt to hunt down the crocodile and make the waters in PD safe from this probably starving predator.

People are still calling Lionel everytime they spot the crocodile but there is neither action nor assurance from the authorities.

Talks of crocodile in PD watere are not new. In November last year 6 people sported a crocodile about 2 km from Corus Hotel.

In the latest incident, which happened in January, postman Mohamad Helme Leman, 25, from Kampung Air Limau, Masjid Tanah, Melaka received 50 stiches after he was bitten by what is beleived to be an adult crocodile while he was bathing with his family and a friend.

He was taken to the local hospital and later transferred to the Melaka Hospital and admitted to the ICU. He has since been discharged and can hardly walk as the surgeons say his nerves have been affected.

On the presence of the croccodile, the Director of Ocenografic Institute of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) Profesor Sulung Ibrahim thinks that it was possible that the predator found its way to the schores of PD from the local rives.

Wharever it is the public and picnikers have a right to know if the waters around PD is safe. If they are not sure than start doing something before more people get bitten or even eaten alive.

CAPTION: The pictures show the victim's leg just after he was pulled out of the waters by his friend.

This scenario reminds me of the movie JAWS... By the time the authorities started taking action a few lives were already lost..
